Modform helps out in a tight spot at Elgin Crescent
Location: Maida Vale, London
Contractor: J & Z Construction Ltd.
Product: Modform Universal Formwork used as single sided wall formwork
Due for completion: 2018
A typical installation of a basement to an existing building with the absence of cranage and tight working space, presented a range of challenges to the contractor.
After an initial site meeting with the Technical Director in order to provide the required drawings and specifications, the Modform Universal Formwork system was identified as the ideal solution.
Modform Universal Formwork is an impressive indication of how one single formwork system can be put to universal use. The steel frame of the Modform panels consists of 6mm thick flat steel with an inlay of 15mm thick 11-ply phenol resin-coated Finnish birch plywood. There is a half tie hole on the side of each panel, so when two panels join it forms a full tie hole. The tie positions are located 125mm vertically from the bottom of the panel.
Inform UK provided the kit and additional technical support, forging a close working relationship with J&Z Construction, to prepare the area for the concrete pour.
Tom (Project Manager) and Josef (Foreman) both stated that the Modform system was an improvement on alternative systems, as it was easy and quick to install using the innovative keybolt to secure connections between panels. Because the system is relatively lightweight, no mechanical lifting was required, which meant that the construction team had no issues installing the kit on site. The customer was also impressed with the quality of the kit and was well serviced and ready for use.
